Description |
A black scale with a tin plate attached to top and an arm with groves for weight to move on extending from center. Embossed on cast iron base, on both sides, is: FAIRBANKS. There is a weight on the arm that moves up or down on the groves. In 1830, Thaddeus built his first real scale and applied for a patent. By the time of the Civil War, Fairbaniks' scales were the best known American product in the world. |
